The Padres have acquired Pedro Ciriaco from the Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named later.

Ciriaco was designated for assignment by Boston earlier this week.

Because he is out of options, Ciriaco will need to be placed on San Diego's 25-man roster.

The Pirates today recalled infielder John McDonald from his rehab assignment from Triple-A Indianapolis, reinstated him from the 15-day disabled list and traded him to the Indians for a player to be named or cash considerations.

The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, GM Neal Huntington.

The A's made a minor league deal with the Mariners on Sunday, acquiring third baseman Vinnie Catricala for a player to be named later.

Catricala has been playing at Double-A Jackson, Tenn. this year and will moved to Double-A Midland, Texas.

The Braves have traded Juan Francisco to the Brewers for pitching prospect Tom Keeling.

Keeling will be assigned to Double-A Mississippi, according to the Braves.

Francisco, who had shared time at third base with Chris Johnson, hit .241 with five homers, 16 RBIs and 43 strikeouts in 108 at-bats.
